Windows NT and UNIX (or in this case Linux) both have their
strengths and weaknesses. Customer preference and the applications you
want to run will dictate which one is preferable given your situation.
There are a couple of major differences between Linux hosting and
Windows NT hosting:
- Windows NT hosting is more expensive than Linux hosting,
- Linux is typically a more stable and reliable operating system,
- With Interspeed, the web site hosting control panel is available
only with Linux hosting.
The features Windows NT hosting has which Linux hosting doesn't
have includes:
- ASP (Active Server Pages),
- OBSN Access,
- SQL 7.0,
- Cold Fusion 4.0.
The features Linux hosting has which Windows NT hosting doesn't
includes:
- MySQL,
- SSI (Server side includes).
In conclusion, unless you require either ASP, OBSN Access, SQL 7.0
or Cold Fusion 4.0, we recommend Linux hosting.
