WHAT IS QUICKFIRE JETSTREAM?

Quickfire JetStream delivers the power of the Internet to your home or office at speeds of up to 50 times faster than an analogue modem.

JetStream Starter is a capped rate 128k service. All other plans are Full Rate DSL.

Both JetStream and JetStream Starter use your standard copper telephone line and are powered by Telecom’s JetStream ADSL (Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line) technology. A standard dial-up modem uses only a fraction of the bandwidth of your telephone line. Quickfire enables you to exploit this untapped potential, giving you an Internet connection that’s considerably faster.

Since you’ve got more bandwidth, you can also share services. You can use the same line for a phone call while you’re surfing, with Quickfire working side by side with your phone service.

APPLICATIONS:

When you’ve got bandwidth, you’ve got power! If it’s for home, you can email, surf the Net, download videos, applications, MP3s and other entertainment and play state of the art Internet games online, all at the same time!

If you’re a business user, Quickfire allows you to use a single Internet connection for all the computers in your office. As well as reducing download times, it helps you to respond to customers quickly, keep a phone line open for other important business, and allows faster file sharing and ‘virtual meetings’ with the help of webcams and other technology.

1. GENERAL CONSIDERATIONS AND ONE-OFF COSTS:

Wiring and installation (applicable ONLY if you request an installation by a Telecom Technician- please see Telecom website (new charges apply)
The above are charged directly by Telecom NZ, and will be reflected in the subscriber's Telecom bill together with the monthly rental charge.
Please note that you would also need an ADSL MODEM

2. QUICKFIRE JETSTREAM STARTER PLANS (FORMERLY JETSTART):

Telecom NZ has recently recently re-named their JetStart plan JETSTREAM STARTER. JetStream Starter is available only on RESIDENTIAL TELEPHONE LINES and cannot support STATIC IPs. Some JetStream plans are also exclusively for residential telephone lines (see ABOVE).

PORT SHAPING: JetStream Starter plans are also subject to PORT SHAPING. In practice, this is a speed restriction on certain internet services to ensure that genuine DSL customers are not deprived of performance and bandwidth through the actions of a few. This is structured as follows:

UNLIMITED TRAFFIC: HTTP (Web browsing), ICQ, Email, Newsgroups, all National Traffic, National Gaming, Telnet, SSH, IRC.
MODERATELY LIMITED TRAFFIC: FTP, some international gaming servers i.e Everquest, Diablo.
LIMITED TRAFFIC: Peer-to-Peer (P2P) applications (i.e Kazaa, Morpheus), International Gaming.

3. SIGNING UP FOR JETSTREAM:

It's first advisable to check your telephone line for JetStream availability here.
Next, you should provision the Telecom JetStream service. You can either do this yourself here specifying Quicksilver as your choice of ISP, or call us on 0508 774583 and ask us to sign you up. Either way, your TELECOM ACCOUNT NUMBER and the name and specific permission form the account holder (if you are not the account holder) will be required. The form will ask you for personal, plan option, system and other information and a suitable date for installation of the service (usually 5 working days). If you fill this form yourself please remember to note down your TRANSACTION NUMBER.
Finally, once the provisioning has been concluded and the service installed on y line, call helpdesk on 0508 774583 to set up your Quicksilver access account (usually 20 minutes).
